Structure Fire - Magruder Road

March 13th 2010 - Units repsonded for a report of a structure fire.  Upon arrival, Engine 52 found a haze inside the dwelling.  Crews overhauled the kitchen and ventilated the smoke from the building.

Brush Fire - Benns Church Blvd.

March 7th 2010 - Units responded for a brush fire on Benns Church Blvd.  Upon arrival, a small, slow moving fire was found about 200' off the roadway.  Units operated a short time extinguishing the fire which spread to a small shed also.

Motorcycle Fire - Benns Church Blvd.

January 5th 2010 - Engine 52 responded for a motorcycle on fire at Southern Foods gas station.  Engine 52 arrived to find a motorcycle well involved.  The crew deployed 150' attack line with foam to suppress the fire.  Upon investigation, it was found that spilled fuel caused the fire.

Structure Fire - N. Church Street

January 8th 2010 - At 9:35 a.m., Station 50, 10, and 60 were banged out for a commercial structure fire at Smithfield Packing Co. with reported black smoke coming from the old kill floor.  Upon arrival, Engine 52 found there to be a working fire on the 2nd floor of the structure with extension to several roof ventilation ducts.  The assignment was upgraded to bring Stations 30, 40 and 20.  A long courtyard lay was used to extend the hose line into the fire room and eventually to the roof.  Truck 51's crew went to the roof to open up and overhaul where the ventilation ducts passed through the roof.  The fire was marked under control after operating for 20 minutes.  While units were operating on scene, Engine 40 (Windsor) stood by at Station 50, Engine 9 (Chuckatuck) stood by at Smithfield Plaza, Engine 20 (Carrsville) stood by at Station 40, Engine 5 (Franklin) stood by at Station 20, and Engine 5 (Suffolk) stood by at Station 10.

 

Structure Fire - Benns Church Blvd.

January 5th 2010 - Just after lunch, Station 10 (Carrollton) and Station 9 (Chuckatuck) were dispatched for a garage fire on Benns Church Blvd.  501 and Engine 52 were in the area and were added to the assignment.  Engine 29 arrived to find a garage well involved and deployed a 2 1/2 handline for fire attack.  Engine 52 went to IOW Industrial Park to establish a fill site for a water shuttle.  Tankers 9 & 10 provided water supply at the scene.  Units operated for several hours overhauling the contents fo the garage.

 

Structure Fire - Carrollton Blvd.

January 2nd 2010 - Around 4:00 a.m., Station 10 & 50 were tapped out for a reported chimney fire.  Quint 10 arrived to find a one story dwelling with smoke showing from the eves.  Upon investigation, it was determined that fire had extended form the chimney and a working fire was in the attic.  503 (J. Hackney) arrived to assume command from 103 (G. Rawls).  Truck 51 and Engine 51 were next to arrive to assist Quint 10 with fire attack by opening the attic space up.  The fire was brought under control after the fire had consumed about 50% of the roof structure in the area of the chimney.  Crews then overhauled the area in the structure where the roof had collapsed.  Below freezing temperatures created hazardous conditions on scene.  No injuries were reported.  Units operated approx. 2 1/2 hours.
