Route 10 Bypass Closed for 5 Hours for Vehicle vs. Golf Cart

At approximately 12:48 AM members of the SVFD were dispatched to a Motor Vehicle Accident involving a compact car and a golf cart in the area of Fairway Drive and Route 10 Bypass. Engine 51 and Rescue 50 responded directly to the scene along with Battalion 1 (Deiterich) and 504 (Smith). Units marked on scene with a single vehicle with heavy damage that was overturned and a golf cart with very heavy damage. Due to the nature of the incident, the call was made to launch Nightengale. Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad responded with Medic 62 & Medic 64. Engine 53 was dispatched to provide landing zone support. Unfortunately the individual that was operating the golf cart succumbed to his injuries on scene before he could be transported. The driver of the car was treated on scene for minor injuries. Route 10 at Fairway Drive remained closed for 5 hours while law enforcement investigated the accident. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all involved and we wish to express our sincere condolences for this loss.
