In the early morning hours of Weds Oct. 19, 4 SVFD members (Lt. J. Callis, FF/Engineer C. Hassell, FF J. Parker, FF. R Smith) left to assist the Hatteras FD and the citizens of Hatteras Island in their recovery after Hurricane Matthew. Members assisted in clearing out houses, checking water damage and providing staffing at the Hatteras FD. Members also assisted about 5 families after they lost 90% of their belongings by salvaging what property and personnel belongings they had. SVFD members returned to hamtown on the evening of October 20 tired and dirty but feeling accomplished.
