This past weekend Dec 18th - 20th Smithfield Vol. Fire Department hosted a Vehicle Rescue II Class at station # 50. The class was a 24-hour program that included classroom PowerPoint's and practical training which applies to those incidents where commercial or heavy vehicles are involved, are complex extrication processes will have to be applied, or that involves heavy machinery or more than digital entrapment of a victim. The class involved heavy vehicle lifting, stabilization and utilization of heavy towing and recovery services, along with complex patient packaging and removal techniques. The class was taught by Virginia Department Of Fire Programs instructors Brian Sanzo, Mark Gwyn, David Lewis, and Denny West. Students in the class were from various departments; Smithfield Vol. Fire Department, Carrollton Vol. Fire Department, Norfolk Fire Department, York County Fire Department, James City Fire Department, Va Beach Fire Department, New Kent Vol. Fire Department, and Navy Regional Fire Department.

Most importantly, we sincerely appreciate Chip's Towing and Recovery from Suffolk, Va and Dave's Service Center from Smithfield, Va that chose to spend their free time with us over the weekend and for sharing their knowledge of the wrecker service with the class.

We of course would like to thank all the VDFP instructors for teaching the class and sharing their knowledge and experience with the class.
