Station 50 was dispatched to a reported brush fire at Premium Pet Health, adjacent to Smithfield Packing Plant on 3/24/2015 at 1430. Engine 51 arrived on scene with 503, noting downed power lines near the truck scales. Dominion Power was notified and shortly after power was secured the adjacent grease pit ignited. As a result, fire spread rapidly to the embankment and was threatening a natural gas line and neighboring exposures. Engine 51 called in a working fire at their location and requested additional resources. Engine 50, Engine 52, Engine 53, and Support 50 responded. Fire operations lasted approximately 30 minutes, with no damage to exposures or injury. 503 reported conditions under control and cleared the command, returning the scene over to Smithfield Foods.
