The Day Began like any other, apparatus checkoff and riding assignments made but at 0949 hrs a call reporting a structure fire on Everets Rd in Station 40 (Windsor VFD) first due. Companies arrived to find a double wide mobile home with a heavy fire condition. Smithfield Engine 51, Engine 53 and Truck 50 responded and assisted with fireground operations. The Fire was knocked down and placed under control with some exposure damage due to radiant heat. No injuries were reported and companies were returned to service several hours later.
Fire #2 At approximately 1928 the bells sounded again alerting Station 50, 40 ( Windsor VFD), and 60 (IOWRS) sending them to the 14000 block of Bowling Green Rd in 50s first due response area. While enroute, units were advised of multiple callers reporting a well involved single family dwelling with fire through the roof. Based on the notes, Chief 502 (R. Gray) requested a working incident be declared, requested an additional tanker from Station 10 (Carrolton VFD) and Tac 1 was assigned. Smithfield 522 (T. Dortch) marked on scene, advised heavy fire conditions throughout the structure with an exposure problem to the Delta side where an RV was parked. Truck 50 (LT C. Smith) and Engine 51 (LT J. Paiz) were first companies on scene. E51 assumed fire attack and exposure protection while T50 assessed the possibility of VES and ventilated the structure from the C Side. Upon initial entry on the front of the Structure, it was determined the integrity of the floor would not support interior operations and crews were pulled out of the structure and operations transitioned to a defensive strategy. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes and crews worked the incident for nearly three hours as extensive overhaul and rural water supply operations had to be employed. All units were cleared by 10:45pm and returned to service shortly after. Unfortunately two pets were unable to be saved from the structure and one person was displaced and being assisted by American Red Cross. Rushmere VFD (30) also assisted on location with a tanker
