This past weekend, Mayday training was held at the 50 House. Three Instructors from Hampton Fire and one from Norfolk Fire held a class for approximately 9 students including 3 of our own. The training consisted of first-hand basic Mayday skills to teach firefighter survival and how to get out of an entanglement situation. The students learned the "Denver Drill", "Columbus Drill", Ladder Bail and Rope Slide. They also went through a pretty rigorous obstacle course using the props in the back part of the station with a little added building prepared by FF Derrick Brown. It was quite an eye opener for the students, but they all got through it. Thanks to Medic/ Firefighters Chris Marshall, Tom Holloway, Lt. Harvey Mowery from Hampton and Capt. Rich Graulich from Norfolk for taking the time to come to Smithfield and teach.
