ABOUT THE STREAMING AUDIO FEED

A FEW WORDS ABOUT ISLE OF WIGHT DISPATCH

The SVFDlive! Server is a Dell OPTIplex GX 150 that runs Windows Server 2003 Standard. We're using a RadioShack (40-424) Scanner that has a line out option which is connected into the Line-In on the server's sound card. OddcastV3 encodes the dispatch traffic into the Lame MP3 format and the stream is "pushed" out to the ICEcast2 servers over at www.futuremediaworld.com. Our audio stream will work with any media player software capable of playing streaming MP3 feeds.

All Emergency Services are dispatched from the Isle of Wight Courthouse Complex centrally located in the county. This dispatch center is referred to as "Central". There are 5 fire departments and 2 rescue squads that are located in the county and The Chuckatuck Volunteer Fire Department (City of Suffolk) covers a portion of the county as well.

Calls are "pre-alerted" (A short tone with Incident location and Type of Call) before the actual station tones are "dropped". After the first unit marks enroute to the incident, additional comments are relayed by the dispatcher to responding units.

The channels that you are listening to right now are Isle of Wight County Fire & Rescue Primary (Channel 1) and TAC 1 (Repeated Fireground Channel) This will allow you to hear the majority of the dispatch and fireground traffic.
