Q & A - Membership

 

Q. What types of membership are available?

A. Currently the SVFD offers three levels of membership: Full, Associate & Support Services.
Full Membership is for those individuals that live in the SVFD run district and can
 commit to the required activity levels set by the department.
Associate Membership is for
those individuals that do not live in the district and wish to volunteer with the SVFD. Support
Services is for individuals that do not wish to fight fire, but can offer the department other services.

 

Q. What are the requirements for membership?

A. For Full Membership you must have the following:

·     A valid driver's license (must provide recent copy of DMV record)

·      Have a High School Diploma or G.E.D. (or equivalent)

·      You must live in the SVFD run district.

·      You must submit to and pass a physical and drug screen

·      You must be able to pass a Criminal History Background Check

·      You will be required to abide by the SVFD bylaws for active members.

    For Associate Membership you must have the following:

·      A valid driver's license

·      Have a High School Diploma or G.E.D. (or equivalent)

·      You must submit to and pass a physical and drug screen

·      You must be able to pass a Criminal History Background Check

·      You will be required to pull 24 hours per month of duty at the station.

 









Q. What if I don't want to fight fire but I
want to donate my time/talents?

A. We have established a new membership class for Non-firefighting personnel
called Support Services.

 
  • This is a non-firefighting position of the SVFD
  • You will be required to provide 40 hours per year of service
  • You must submit to a criminal history background check
  • You must submit to and pass a drug screen
  • You must be a High School Graduate (G.E.D. ok)
  • You must be at least 18 years of age

 

Q. How much time per week does it take to
be a volunteer?

A. As much time as you can afford to give. There is no set limit to the
amount of time our members give the department per week. We have
members that put in 6-8 hours per week and we have members that
participate in the SVFD Live-In Program where they actually reside at
the fire station
.

or you can receive one in person by stopping by the firehouse.
