Extrication -
Great Spring Road
August
3rd 2009 -
At 0511 hours, while a medic was responding from
Station 60 (IWVRS), the 50 House was banged out for an accident with injuries
and advised that it would be an extrication. Engine 52 and Rescue 51
responded with six personnel. Upon arrival, 504 (O'Reilly) confirmed that
it would be a working extrication. Engine 52 arrived to place a protection
line in service, stabilize the vehicle, and secure the battery. Rescue 51
arrived on the heels of Engine 52 and stretched the pre-connected cutter and
spreader. Due to the entanglement and poor access to the passenger side of
the vehicle, the portable hydraulic pump and telescoping ram was placed in
service to displace the dash off of the patient's legs. After approx. 35
minutes, the patient was freed from the vehicle and placed in the care of the
medic crew for transport to a local hospital.

acquire ideas for the new rescue that should be ordered very soon. Hmmm, I
wonder what it's going to look like?

20th 2009 -
After several years of work and planning, the
department is finally able to see some progress on the new fire station. The
station will be built in the 1800 block of S. Church Street, giving us easy
access to both the town and county areas we provide service. Some of the
improvements the new station will feature will be an apparatus bay almost
doubled the size of our current station, individual living quarters for the
growing live-in membership, and a training/meeting room which was lost when our
current meeting room was converted to live-in quarters. The latest
timeline has construction starting in November 2009.
