Church Street

The second MVA of the day would be
a vehicle into a pole. Upon arrival, Engine 52 found a vehicle had struck
a pole causing significant damage to the pole. Dominion Power was
notified. The driver had fled the scene, but was later found behind a
nearby house and checked for injuries. The medic on scene obtained a patient
refusal.

Once again the 50 House was called
into action while attempting to get a meal down. This time it was for a
vehicle into a building. Upon arrival, one patient was in the care of the
medic. Engine 52 assessed the damage to the building and determined that
there was no structural damage, but only cosmetic. The vehicle was
secured, and Engine 52 stood by until the vehicle was removed.
Extrication -
Route 10
March
12th 2009

Station 50 & Station 60 were
banged out for a MVC with injuries on Route 10, west of Berry Hill Rd.
While units were responding, the dispatcher advised of entrapment. Engine
52 arrived to find a two vehicle collision with a side swipe/head-on impact.
Engine 52's crew stabilized the vehicle quickly and deployed a protection line
for the ensuing extrication. Upon arrival of Rescue 51, TNT rescue tools
were used to remove the front door and B post for patient access and removal.
Both drivers were transported to Riverside Regional Hospital.
Training -
Live Burn

Station 50 conducted a live burn
of an acquired structure. The primary objectives was executing simple
hoseline advancement for fire control, and search and rescue skills. This
was also a good training evolution for several new members who recently received
their FFI from VDPF. The exercise lasted approx. 8 hours. In the
coming months the department will be using the same structure for more training
drills.
Wintery
Weather Brings Runs

The accumulating winter mix
brought the usual of vehicles leaving the roadway. The 50 House responded
on several of these accidents in the beginning stages of the storm. The
following day, an overturned pick-up truck required a simple windshield removal
to allow the driver to self extricate. Also, the SVFD responded for an
odor of smoke in a dwelling which was unfounded. A total of six runs were
responded to in a 24 hr. period.

Station 50 & Station 60 were
dispatched for a MVC with injuries. Engine 52 and Rescue 51 responded and
arrived to find a pick-up into a power pole and the driver unresponsive.
The accident caused the power lines to be pulled from two dwellings and a near
by water line to break. The patient was quickly removed from the vehicle
and placed in the medic for transport to Obici Hospital.
Car Fire -
Foursquare Road
February

Just after 0200 hrs, Station 50
was alerted for a vehicle fire on Foursquare Road. Engine 52 responded
and arrived to find an abandoned sedan well involved. A bumper line with
foam was deployed for extinguishment. The operator of the vehicle caught a
ride home, but later returned to the scene. Engine 52 operated for 30
minutes before returning to quarters.
