Structure Fire - Bay Harbor Lane

October 31st 2008 - In the early afternoon, Stations 10 (first due) & 50 were alerted for the structure fire reported to be in an attached garage. Engine 52 & 53, and the Rescue responded.  A station 10 zone car arrived on scene to find smoke showing throughout the single story dwelling.  A short time later, (501) Stallings arrived and the incident was scaled back holding the simultaneously arriving Quint 10 and Engine 53 for overhaul.  The fire was contained to the garage with no extension.  All units cleared in approx. 30 minutes.

Pumpkin Carving Contest

October 30th 2008 - Member's children came up to the 50 House on Halloween Eve to carve pumpkins to be on display the following night.  About nine kids had their own pumpkin to carve anyway they wished.  All participates received a gift after all the carving was done.

 

 

 

 

Apparatus Update - Car 52

October 30th 2008 - After two months of in-house fabrications and modifications, and lettering by Major Signs of Suffolk, Car 52 was complete and placed in service.  Car 52 features Whelen strobe, led, and halogen warning lights, DX5100 Powercall siren, and two mobile radios.  Car 52 is assigned to Asst. Chief Edwards.  Thanks to the Town of Smithfield for the transfer of the surplus police crusier.

     

Rural Water Supply

October 26th 2008 - A VDFP Rural Water Supply was held at Station 40 (Windsor) over the weekend.  Students learned about efficient fill site, dump site, and drafting operations.  Four of the five county departments participated in the 16 hour class using apparatus from their respective stations.

     

BAND, BBQ, B???

October 18th 2008 - Come out October 18th and support your local volunteer fire department!  The fundraiser will take place at 12464 Comet Road, Smithfield, VA 23430.  Come out for a good time.  The featured band will be the Heather Edwards Band.  Food will be catered by Nixon's and served from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.  All inclusive tickets are on sale for $25 at Farmers Service, Simpsons Pharmacy, West Sportswear and Station 50.  For more info. call Lt. MVA w/ Fatality - Route 10

October 3rd 2008 - Once again while attempting to get a meal, our plans were foiled when Stations 50 & 60 were dispatched for an MVA on Route 10 near Wrenn's Mill Road and advised there was fire involved.  Engine 52 with three, and Rescue 51 with two responded and arrived to find a concrete mixer and pick-up truck off the road well involved with fire.  Engine 52 deployed a pre-connect with foam to extinguish the fire.  The driver of the concrete mixer escaped with non-life threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital.  The driver of the pick-up succumbed to his injuries.  Units operated on scene for 3 1/2 hours to assist VA State Police.  Check out the arriving video footage.
