Electrical Problems - Jersey Park Apartments

March 28th 2006 - Just after dinner the SVFD was called to Jersey Park Apartments for a possible structure fire. Upon arriving on the scene the Truck investigated and found that an electrical heating unit in the bathroom had shorted out when one of the occupants were taking a shower causing smoke to fill the apartment. Crews remained on scene for 45 minutes clearing smoke from the structure and securing utilities.

 

 


 

Gas Leak - 300 Block Main Street 

March 26th 2006 - Just before lunch Friday Station 50 members responded to a smell of gas in the 300 block of Main Street. After a thorough investigation the crew from E53 found that insecticide sprayed earlier in the day was the cause for the smell.

March 22nd 2006 - The Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department announces the launch
of it's new official website "SmithfieldVFD.com". Here you will find the latest SVFD
information, fire safety tips, recent and upcoming events and more.
 

SVFD announces Live-In Program

March 21st 2006 - The SVFD is proud to announce another first for the county. SOPs are being released
that contain the framework for a live in program at Station 50. Check our bylaws & SOPs section
for more on this.


 

Industrial Structure Fire

March 15th 2006 - Station 50 members responded to a report of a structure fire located at 501 N. Church Street. E53 marked on scene with light smoke coming from the roof. Interior crews from T51 reported smoke on the 2nd division and upon further investigation found an exhaust fan that had malfunctioned and caught fire. Onsite fire suppression systems extinguished the fire and thanks to the quick work of  the Truck, the SVFD prevented excessive water damage. Units on scene: Engine 53, Truck 51,
Rescue 51,  Car 51 and Carrollton Quint 10.


 

120 Acre Brush Fire in Southampton Co.

March 13th 2006 - The SVFD was special called to provide manpower for a large
brush fire in Southampton County over an hour away. 14 departments were       
present at this large scale incident. The picture to the right was taken enroute       
to the scene. The barrels in the trailer are 55 gallon foam barrels that the SVFD    
donated to assist the Southampton Companies. SVFD went in Support 50, par 5. 
 

 



 

Structure Fire - 19 Monette Ln.

Feb 2006 - Members responded to a report of smoke coming from the attic of
19 Monette Ln. Upon arrival of the fire due engine (Engine 53) acting officer
D. West marked off with light smoke showing from the cockloft. The crew from
E53 mounted an aggressive interior attack, and upon gaining entry to the structure,
quickly extinguished the fire. And yes we even brought out the new one too. (E52)
Units operating on scene: Engine 53, Rescue 51, Engine 52, Car 51, Engine 51, and
Carrollton Tanker 10.

Fatal Accident on Main St.

Feb 2006 - Units responded to an accident with injuries in the 800 block of Main St. Engine 53 marked on scene with an overturned SUV with two ejections and one still possibly trapped in the vehicle. Both ejected patients were ground transported to area hospitals. The other victim was in respiratory arrest on arrival. CPR was started on scene but the patient did not survive due to the extent of the injuries sustained in the accident.

ENGINE 52 ARRIVES AT STATION 50!!!

Feb 2006 - We are proud to announce the arrival of our new Pierce Enforcer Engine. This apparatus features an 1,500GPM Waterous Pump, 1,000 gallon poly tank, 400 horsepower Cummins Diesel w/Jake Brake, Dual front bumper loads, Wheelen LED and CODE 3 mini-bars light packages (and yes... the ROTO-RAY), Federal Q2, and... oh yeah the PowerCall DX5 siren package.

Alarm Activation - Bradford Mews

Jan 2006 - SVFD members responded to an alarm activation for a waterflow in one of our many apartment complexes. First arriving crews found a small kitchen fire on the 2nd division of this 3 story complex with a sprinkler activation that had knocked down the fire. Unfortunately the first floor occupancy sustained heavy flooding.
